KBDi Medium Kitchen NSW – Finalist

Jun 19, 2018

Announced as Finalist in the KBDi Medium Kitchens NSW category this Industrial Lux kitchen provided our client with a glossy, glamourous solution for their growing family. With a definite direction and base requirements for their space: No Handles. Gloss. Black and White. Maybe grey. No rounds or curves. Must be angles.

The existing floorplan of the 1960s cottage was very secular, dark and impractical for a growing family. Removing 3 walls and relocating the kitchen allowed a more flexible, functional space for Mum, Dad and new-born twins. Our new design provides an open plan contemporary flow, modernising the space and reinforcing the kitchen as a new social hub and the true heart of the home.

Industrial Lux

Inspired by the chic and glamourous lines of French fashion designers and a Contemporary edge, the client has a particular style, look and feel to their interiors and wanted to carry that through to the finishes within their kitchen and entertaining space. Whilst maintaining functionality and delivering the clients a Modern, Chic and Stylish space that would fit the needs of a growing young family.

Removing the existing kitchen completely allowed for a direct flow from the front entrance through the ground floor of the property and enables an open plan kitchen and dining space which then has ease of access to the outdoor entertaining and living area. The new kitchen now occupies a previously non-functional room and the tired laundry, which was also relocated and replaced with a concealed modern European laundry.

Cool Sophisticated Elegant

The light and glamourous kitchen is created using white high gloss reflective surfaces, gloss cool grey cabinetry and a mirrored splashback the length of the kitchen, opening the space. With minimalist lines, the dramatic Caesarstone peninsula bench extends into the area providing functionality with its additional seating and anchors the zone with a hardened steel strap leg. The masculine urban influences continue in the steel strapping highlights on the wall cabinetry adding balance and strength to the space.

Amongst the polished surfaces, strong shapes and angles, the floating shelf featuring Pixalux illumination provides a glamourous and functional highlight. Discrete ‘touch to open’ cabinets provide a seamless look to this elegant kitchen.

This design illustrates an innovation and flair, maintaining the balance of light and dark. Harmony between the lightness and floating illusion contrasted with texture of the hardened stee
